PARK HILLS, Mo. (March 6, 2018) – The Doe Run Company (Doe Run) has awarded its Jeff Sadler Scholarship to Brendan Pingel for the 2018-2019 academic year. Each year, the scholarship is given to a student of Mineral Area College(MAC) living in Iron, Washington, Reynolds, Dent or Crawford counties in memory of former Doe Run employee, Jeff Sadler.

Pingel, a resident of Irondale, Missouri, is currently pursuing a pre-engineering degree at MAC. He graduated from West County High School in 2017, where he was a member of the National Honor Society.

“I chose to attend MAC because it has a great reputation, and its convenient location lets me get a quality education within my community,” said Pingel. “The scholarship will provide extra financial assistance while I advance my education.”

Outside of school, Pingel is an Eagle Scout from Troop 967. He will graduate from MAC in Spring 2019, and hopes to continue his education at Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) to obtain a degree in mechanical engineering. After college, he plans to own his own business.

Each year, Doe Run awards several scholarships to local students pursuing degrees that support science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) professions and education. Students at both MAC and Missouri S&T are eligible to receive scholarships from Doe Run. For more information about applying for a scholarship, visit the financial aid offices at MAC and Missouri S&T.

“The Jeff Sadler Scholarship supports the education of southeast Missouri’s future STEM and mining workforce,” said Mark Coomes, Doe Run vice president – human resources and community relations. “Supporting driven students like Brendan gives our next generation the tools and training they need to begin a successful career.”
