There are no concerns about the availability of raw materials or the security of supply for lead-based batteries for the foreseeable future, according to a new study from the International Lead Association (ILA). The study shows that the lead-based battery has proven its long-term sustainability. For example, lead is one of only three metals to have a global production rate of more than 50% from secondary production, with an end of life recycling rate for lead-acid batteries of more than 95% in the U.S. and Europe. In the U.S. alone, lead-acid battery recycling keeps 2.4 million tons of batteries out of landfills.
