CASA GRANDE, Az. (Jan. 30, 2018) – The Seafab Metals facility of Fabricated Products Inc. (FPI), a wholly owned subsidiary of The Doe Run Company (Doe Run), recently achieved 18 years without a lost-time accident. This milestone, reached in January 2018, represents more than 1.4 million hours of safe work at the facility in Casa Grande, Arizona.

“Seafab is committed to safe work, and we are proud that our employees have lived this commitment every day for the past 18 years,” said Dave Olkkonen, general manager of the FPI division. “It takes a great deal of preparation and attention to detail to maintain a safe workplace. A record like this demonstrates we not only watch out for ourselves, but also for one another.”

Both Seafab in Arizona and FPI’s Vancouver, Washington, location take many steps to ensure safety. Each employee participates in approximately 20 hours of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulated training each year, and completes assessments to demonstrate their understanding of the material. In addition, employees meet regularly at the beginning of each shift to identify potential issues and discuss how they can safely address them.

These practices have helped FPI mark several safety milestones throughout the years. This year, the Vancouver facility has recorded 14 years of safe work. In May 2015, FPI’s two facilities achieved a combined 1.5 million hours without a lost-time accident. The Seafab facility has received a “Perfect Record Award” from the National Safety Council each year since 2000.

Annually, FPI manufactures 30,000 tons of lead products. Its Seafab location in Casa Grande produces sheet lead for roofing; lead shielding to block sound waves, X-rays and nuclear radiation; containers for radioactive materials transport and storage; lead anode blades for copper and zinc electrowinning; bullet materials; and specialty extruded shapes. FPI’s Vancouver facility produces lead oxide for the manufacturing of lead batteries.
