In recognition of National Battery Day, Essential Energy Everyday and Battery Council International hosted their second annual energy briefing February 12 on Capitol Hill.

A panel of researchers and industry experts shared updates on innovative lead battery research’s ability to meet the growing need for renewable energy as well as create efficient energy models to lower the planet’s carbon footprint and stabilize the grid. Batteries are a key technology for new concepts of mobility and energy. Over the next 10 years, the global battery market is estimated to grow 110%, which equates to $115 billion.

In addition, lead batteries have a 99% recycling rate, use 80% recycled materials, and have earned the recognition of “Most Recycled Consumer Product” by the EPA. The Doe Run Company’s Resource Recycling facility is one of the largest single-site lead recycling facilities in the world, making it a vital link in the modern, closed-loop recycling system.
